Bon Jovi Added to Jazz Fest Lineup

NEW ORLEANS - Bon Jovi has been added to this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, putting the rockers in the company of Aretha Franklin, James Taylor, Sugarland and others already slated to perform.

Bon Jovi formed in the early 1980s with lead singer Jon Bon Jovi, guitarist Richie Sambora, keyboardist David Bryan and drummer Tico Torres. The band has been rocking for a quarter-century and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans and much of the Gulf Coast in August 2005, Bon Jovi gave Oprah Winfrey 1 million dollars to help build more than 20 homes for low-income families displaced by the storm.

The homes were built in Houma, a coastal Louisiana community roughly 50 miles southwest of New Orleans, through Habitat for Humanity and Oprah's Angel Network.

The group will join Dr. John, Kings of Ten, The O'Jays, Cowboy Mouth and more than a dozen other acts performing on May 2. In all, Jazz Fest spans seven days over two weekends - April 24th to 26th and April 30th to May 3rd.

Lennon's Sons to Perform Together

Julian Lennon and Sean Lennon, the sons of John Lennon, are finally going to perform together in public.

Sources tell me that the Lennon boys have agreed to appear at a United Nations event here in New York on February 26th called the UN-Millenium Goal Awards. Other artists tentatively scheduled to appear include Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, as well as possibly Akon and Macy Gray.

The show is the brainchild of Rhodesian Sacha Stone, founder in 1999 of the Humanitad Foundation. Stone, who lives in the UK now, is said to have relationships with all involved and convinced the Lennons to come aboard. This would mean putting aside differences between the two former Lennon households.

Bon Jovi has No. 1 tour in ’08

Bon Jovi has No. 1 tour in ’08

Bon Jovi’s refrain for 2008 could well be “have a nice payday,” as the veteran New Jersey rock band topped Billboard’s tally of the year’s most lucrative concert tours worldwide.
The group – from left, Richie Sambora, David Bryan, Jon Bon Jovi and Tico Torres – attracted nearly 2.2 million fans and grossed $210.6 million, according to Billboard’s Boxscore, outpacing fellow Jerseyites Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s “Magic” tour, which raked in $204.5 million during the period of Nov. 14, 2007, through Nov. 11, 2008, covered by the magazine’s survey.
Madonna’s “Sticky and Sweet” tour, which is continuing, tallied $162 million during the period to place third, followed by the second leg of the Police’s reunion tour, which brought in $150 million.
Celine Dion rounded out the Top 5, generating $91 million.

'Tis The Season

'Tis The Season

The holidays are a time for giving and John Mayer and Mark Chesnutt are proof that musicians aren't opposed to joining the festivities.
Mayer will celebrate the season Dec. 6 with his 2nd Annual Holiday Acoustic Revue at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles with some help from up-and-coming U.K. singer Adele. The show will benefit Toys For Tots and Los Angeles Food Bank. Fans are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy (of $10 value or more) to the show and deposit them in the bins at the venue.
Chesnutt will do his part for the little ones Dec. 14 by performing at the 21st Annual SFPC Christmas Toys in the Sun Run Concert at Markham Park in Weston, Fla. Joining the singer are Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora, Big Kenny from Big & Rich, singer/songwriter Brett James, guitarist Richie Supa (formerly with Aerosmith and Sambora) country artists Shelly Fairchild and LoCash Cowboys, NASCAR legend Kyle Petty and supermodel Niki Taylor.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood, Fla. All funds raised go toward the cost of cancer treatments for children at the hospital.

Guitar stars pay tribute to Les Paul in Cleveland concert

"Let's thank God for this -- and thank God for Les Paul," said Sambora, who serenaded us with Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" and dedicated his ballad "Great Hall of Fame" to the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers in the house. Besides Paul (who also pioneered multi-track recording), their ranks included Burton, Eddy, Gibbons, Kaye and the Ventures.

The next sound you hear: Musical talent to try their hand at ringing in 'N-B-C'

B.B. King, the B-52s, the Flaming Lips, T.I. and Clint Black are among the musical acts NBC has invited to create their own take on the three-note chime for the Peacock network.

The artists will appear in on-air promotions for NBC's "Chime In" branding campaign.

King will be seen, for example, adding a twist to the G-E-C notes on his guitar, while the B-52s have come up with a more dance-oriented take on the chimes.

Other artists taking part are Richie Sambora and the Airborne Toxic Event.

The chime spots will air between shows at the top and the bottom of the hour. The musicians weren't paid, but reportedly were given a "modest gift honorarium." NBC launched "Chime In" earlier this year to re-emphasize its 75-year-old audio cue. All promos now end with the notes; in recent spots, the chimes have been tailored to fit the show being promoted.

Slash, Richie Sambora, Billy Gibbons and other guitar greats booked for Les Paul tribute concert Nov. 15 at State Theatre

Slash of Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver, Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora and Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top are among the musical luminaries lined up for a Les Paul tribute concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at PlayhouseSquare's State Theatre in Cleveland. The show is the climax of a weeklong American Music Masters salute to electric-guitar pioneer Paul, presented by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, Case Western Reserve University and Gibson Guitar Corp.
"I have tremendous respect for Les Paul," Slash said. "He's such an icon in the guitar-playing world, let alone the recording world."
Also on the bill: the Ventures, Alannah Myles (best known for her 1990 hit "Black Velvet") and various hotshot guitarists, including former Elvis Presley sideman James Burton, Dennis Coffey of Motown's Funk Brothers, the Patti Smith Group's Lenny Kaye, Steve Lukather of Toto, Barbara Lynn and Jennifer Batten.
Paul, 93, is expected to attend, too. His name has graced a line of Gibson guitars since 1952.
"I'm looking forward to it," said Slash (real name: Saul Hudson), reached by phone Wednesday at home in Los Angeles.
Yes, he played a Les Paul guitar on Guns N' Roses' immortal "Sweet Child o' Mine" -- and on countless other songs in Slash's repertoire.
"A lot of great guitar players played a Les Paul, so I identified with the sound of it," Slash said. "It's an extension of what I'm trying to communicate as a musician."
Concert tickets -- $30, $40 and $50 -- are on sale at the PlayhouseSquare box office and at PlayhouseSquare.org, or charge by phone, 216-241-6000. VIP packages, $250 (including admission to a pre-show cocktail reception) and $500 (cocktail reception and after-party), can be purchased by calling 216-515-1207.
Paul designed and built one of the first solid-body electric guitars in the early 1940s. He also developed the first eight-track tape recorder and enjoyed success as a chart-topping recording artist.
Paul became a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer in 1988, enshrined in the early influence category. He is the subject of a permanent exhibit at the museum.

Samuel Goldwyn to release blues musical

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) –
Samuel Goldwyn Films has
nabbed domestic rights to the 1930s-era blues musical "Dark
Streets," which features the first film score from B.B. King.
Rachel Samuels' adaptation of producer Glenn Stewart's
stage musical "The City Club" follows a naive playboy drawn
into a treacherous love triangle with two blues singers at his
favorite nightclub. Gabriel Mann, Bijou Phillips, Izabella Miko
and Elias Koteas star.
Etta James, Natalie Cole, Dr. John, Aaron Neville, Solomon
Burke and Richie Sambora perform original songs on the
soundtrack.
Goldwyn plans a late 2008 release for the film, which
earned a special jury prize at this year's CineVegas festival
as a work-in-progress.
Producers Claus Clausen, Andrea Balen, Corina Danckwerts
and Stewart will donate half of the film's profits to the Blues
Initiative, which aids New Orleans musicians hurt by the Gustav
and Katrina hurricanes.

CELEBS AND POLITICS

Even so, Biden's Hollywood support historically hasn't been particularly broad -- mostly moguls, musicians and a sprinkling of actors. Supporters have included Schiff's West Wing colleague Bradley Whitford, Michael Eisner, Jeffrey Katzenberg (although probably not in the same room with Eisner at the same time), Barry Diller, Rick Hilton (a John McCain supporter and Paris' dad), Barry Manilow, Don Henley, Richie Sambora and Cher. It wouldn't make a bad concert or a record company.

Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi's is one of my favorite albums.

"Baby" with The-Dream is the current single from hip-hop's G.O.A.T. On the album, he also has a version of the track featuring Jon Bon Jovi's wingman.

"I have a remix of 'Baby' with Richie Sambora, which is a rock joint," he explained. "[It] is crazy but it's unconventional. I wanted to take it to another level and do something different and touch some of those people who like me when I do that rock-edge flavor. I got a whole crew of people out there who heard me on the Howard Stern ["Private Parts"] soundtrack with the [Red Hot] Chili Peppers playing behind me.

"The remix is hot," he added. "We creatively put our heads together. I told him I wanted that talk box. Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi's is one of my favorite albums. I thought the talk box on a couple of the songs was incredible, 'Livin' on a Prayer' especially. So, I got Richie to do it on the 'Baby' remix. It sounds crazy. Then he did some vocals, and he did some guitar solos ... so it's good. I'mma drop it out there, shoot it out there and give people a chance to feel it. We been talking about it, having some good conversations."

It's all about Soul

Guitarist Richie Sambora should also get a nice solo or bridge during the song. He made Bo Bice's version of Vehicle into a great-rock song with his guitar play, and it doesn't hurt that Sambora is also part owner of the team. By doing this, the Soul and AFL could use the time that JBJ is not singing to put play-by-play calls from the ArenaBowl win and the 2008 season to make a great marketing package to get ArenaBowl XXIII in Philly next year and to get more butts in seats for the regular season, playoffs and ArenaBowl (especially if the Soul is not in the game). This could also become the team's official song for introductions and after each touchdown, so it needs to have some hard rock in, like Welcome to the Jungle that the Predators use and Enter Sandman like a bunch of team use.

BON JOVI - SAMBORA AIDES AILING TEEN

BON JOVI rocker RICHIE SAMBORA is auctioning tickets for his band's upcoming New York concerts to help a young girl battle a brain cyst.
The guitarist is working with a New York radio station to help the family of New Jersey high school student Kelly Mahon pay for their daughter's massive medical bills.
Sambora - who shares Mahon's alma mater at Woodbridge High - will begin the bidding for the two Bon Jovi packages at $1,500 (GBP750) when the auction hits the airwaves on Friday (11Jul08) on New York's rock radio station WPLJ.
The winner will receive tickets to the band's upcoming concerts at Madison Square Garden next week (begs14Jul08), autographed memorabilia, and an invitation to meet Sambora backstage before the show.
Mahon was left nearly incapacitated after complications followed a 14-hour operation last autumn (07) to remove the cyst - leaving her dependent on a respirator and suffering from blurred vision.
She remains hospitalised, although doctors say her progress indicates she could return home soon.

Tip-Top Service

For nesters in Two Liberty’s aeries, concierges scale down life’s hassles.

Especially with views like these. To the east, for example, you can look over Billy Penn's shoulder, follow tankers that look from up here like toy boats on the Delaware, past the Etch-A-Sketch grids of Camden's streets and on into the tufted green suburbs of Cherry Hill and beyond.

Within a year, there will be a full complement of neighbors, including Richie Sambora, Bon Jovi's guitarist, and Tom Knox, the businessman who ran for mayor last year.

But for now, the lack of company works nicely for Michael Beautyman, who set up house on the 40th floor in early April.

Inqlings: Sambora's crib: Two Liberty

Richie Sambora will be a stranger in this town no more.
The Bon Jovi axman, seeking an investment and a change of scenery, has signed an agreement to buy a condo way up high in 57-story Two Liberty Place. He'll join such folks as former mayoral hopeful Tom Knox, who recently bought half of a somewhat lower floor. (Knox will only be on the 46th.)

Sambora, who owns a piece of the Philadelphia Soul (as does Bon Jovi front man Jon Bon Jovi), is expected to stick around after next week's Wachovia Center shows to talk about his new pad. He may spill the price tag, which likely is in the high seven figures.

Sambora told People mag recently that he's recovering from a horrible 2007, including the death of his father from lung cancer, his divorce from Heather Locklear, alcohol rehab, a custody battle, and a breakup with Denise Richards. He told the mag that he's helping his mother and raising awareness for lung cancer.

Also in real estate: filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan is now asking $6.25 mill for his former seven-bedroom in Gladwyne, which went on the market nearly a year ago for $8 million. He bought it for $4.5 million in 2000, and added much, including a nonpareil home theater.

NETWORKS KICK INTO HIGH GEAR FOR NFL

ESPN did more tinkering.

It switched analysts. Joe Theismann is out; Ron Jaworski — who says he sees his niche as "the x's and o's, the football side of the game" — is in.

He'll join Mike Tirico and Tony Kornheiser in the booth. Michele Tafoya and Suzy Kolber will be on the sidelines.

ESPN also added three people — Emmitt Smith, Bill Parcells and Keyshawn Johnson — to the studio team. For the second half of the opening doubleheader, it will have three Mikes (Greenberg, Golic and Ditka) in the booth, with Bonnie Bernstein on the sidelines.

A new version of the Hank Williams Jr. theme song has been taped, this time backed by Brian Setzer, Richie Sambora, Gretchen Wilson and more.

That new theme kicks in Sept. 10, during the busy start to the season. The schedule includes:

Thursday: A half-hour "NFL Kickoff" concert at 8 p.m. is followed by the Saints-Colts game. The Saints were featured last year amid post-Katrina interest, but Madden says the focus now is on football. "I remember asking . . . "Is this just a feel-good story?' Country music has many shades of macho

Fittingly, Lost Highway sounds just like another Bon Jovi record, albeit with guest appearances from LeAnn Rimes and Big Kenny of Big & Rich, and some fun strutting from guitarist Richie Sambora, happily augmenting his patented vocoder with a bottleneck.

Life After Graduation (Even if its Been a Few Years)

Richie Sambora Kean University May 6, 2004

"For me, success is being able to give back to your friends, your family, your community, those in need and the world entire. Let me assure you, nothing in this life feels better than having the confidence that you can take care of yourself and your family and know that you can continue to grow and excel in your profession and as a person. This is my definition of success. But there's no magic potion -- no secret formula. There is absolutely no substitute for hard work. There is always someone right behind you, willing to work harder for what you have and what they want. Don't look over your shoulder and don't use or abuse others to get ahead. Keep your eyes focused on your goals and keep working for what you believe in and what you want to accomplish. Success is something that can never be measured by others -- only you can define and measure your own success.

SAMBORA DETOXING FROM ALCOHOL

BON JOVI rocker RICHIE SAMBORA has dismissed reports he checked into rehab earlier this month (Jun07) - he detoxed from alcohol instead. The 47-year-old guitarist spent a few days at the UCLA Medical Center to treat what was previously an undisclosed problem. Sambora has had a tough year - his divorce from actress Heather Locklear was finalised in April (07) and he recently split from girlfriend Denise Richards (07). His father also passed away from lung cancer. Speaking on U.S. TV show Today this morning (19Jun07), Sambora said, "I did detox. I didn't check into rehab. "Instead of me heading into a place - I was just drinking too much and I needed to get my life together. My dad died too. It's been a rough year. "I'm still in therapy and stuff like that, but it's good. I'm great. I feel fine." Bandmate Jon Bon Jovi added, "We've been through everything together and there was no way that we were not going to be supporting Richie right now - and that's what we're doing. He's been through the fire, and we've been there for him."

Richie Sambora: Getting ‘life back together’

Bon Jovi guitarist talks about going to ‘detox’ and the band’s new album

It’s been a rough stretch of road for Richie Sambora: a divorce last year, a break-up this year, and now a trip to detox last week to deal with his drinking.

“I was just drinking too much, and I needed to get my life back together,” he told TODAY co-host Matt Lauer in the Plaza outside the show’s studios, during a break in an early morning concert Bon Jovi put on for thousands of fans.

Music - Reviews - New York Times

But Mr. Bon Jovi has interests beyond civic cheerleading. On “Everybody’s Broken” he delivers a barbed sort of consolation, and on “One Step Closer” he describes what sounds like a recovery from addiction. Perhaps it means something that Mr. Sambora recently checked in and out of rehab; there’s a place for reckless behavior in country music, just as there’s a place for redemption.

When Jersey meets Nashville

A little bit country

Bon Jovi recorded "Lost Highway" with John Shanks, who produced 2005's "Have a Nice Day", and Nashville producer Dann Huff, who has cut records with Keith Urban, Faith Hill and Rascal Flatts. The album includes "(You Want to) Make a Memory," which peaked at No. 35 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart in April. Bon Jovi and guitarist Richie Sambora wrote with top Nashville songwriters such as Brett James and Hillary Lindsey, whose credits include Carrie Underwood's "Jesus, Take the Wheel."

"From a lyrical standpoint, there's not that much of a difference," Sambora says. "From a musical standpoint, it's just adding the country flavors, like a pedal steel and more mandolins than usual. But the guitars are still heavy at times. I played a lot more slide on this record. I played some Dobro. I had a chance to extend myself and evolve."

The title track, for instance, sports subtle touches of fiddle and pedal steel, as might be heard on an Urban record, while "Whole Lot of Leavin' " begins with an acoustic guitar pattern and that steady four-on-the-floor rhythm that Waylon Jennings used to favor. But those are minor variations.

All of the Bon Jovi trademarks are still present — the shout-along choruses ("I Love This Town") and even the voice box ("We Got It Going On")."

I don't necessarily feel it's a full country record," says Steve Bartels, president of Island Records, Bon Jovi's label. "It's more an album that is inspired by Nashville."

Even after the success of "Who Says You Can't Go Home" — which earned the band its sole Grammy — Bon Jovi knew he needed to tread carefully while courting the country audience, which can be intensely loyal but highly suspicious of outsiders. He delivered the keynote presentation at this year's Country Radio Seminar in Nashville, and the band showcased new songs and old hits during a private show for programmers and industry executives."

You don't want to feel like you're carpetbagging," Sambora says. "That's why we refrained from doing this before."

COUNTRY "HIGHWAY"

Guitarist in rehab

In the title track of his band's new album, Jon Bon Jovi sings, "Life changes like the weather.

'Life took a strange turn for the musicians this month when guitarist Richie Sambora entered a rehabilitation facility for unspecified reasons. Sambora is expected to be well enough to perform with Bon Jovi on the "Today" show Tuesday, the release day for Bon Jovi's "Lost Highway." The band is scheduled to perform "(You Want To) Make a Memory."

If "Lost Highway" has an undercurrent of melancholy, it's likely a reflection of Sambora's troubles. Emotionally, Sambora has been put through the ringer since the "Have a Nice Day" album, enduring a divorce from Heather Locklear, a breakup with Denise Richards and the death of his father.

Sambora says as much in the publicity material for the album: "Writing this record with Jon was deeply cathartic. I was going through emotional changes that were new for me. An ailing father. A painful divorce. The start of a new chapter in my life. I poured everything I had into this project, every last bit of soul at my command."

Sambora also stated that "Seat Next to You," a song on the new album, was inspired by his relationship with his dad, though it has been altered to fit a romantic, boy-girl theme.

Sambora was not available for comment for this story. Plans for an interview with Jon Bon Jovi were canceled, with his publicist citing his "hectic travel schedule."

Jon Bon Jovi: I've been no saint but my wife still rocks my world

"We finished touring last August and typically a two-year period goes by before you do something. But seeing what was happening with Richie and Dave (in the band) kind of inspired me to write."
What was happening with Richie and Dave were that both band members had gone through painful divorces - David Bryan from his wife April McLean and Richie Sambora from actress Heather Locklear.
Richie's subsequent relationship with Denise Richards (former wife of actor Charlie Sheen) ended shortly after his father died of lung cancer this year.
Indeed, Sambora has just been admitted into a rehab facility in California for an undisclosed problem.
"Richie's OK, but he's a work-in-progress, you know," says Bon Jovi softly.
"We've been in the band together for so long and gone through a whole range of experiences, but to be honest, we'd had no real strife until recently.
"Then parents were passing away and divorces were happening and kids were coming of age and suddenly it wasn't me, me, me any more, but we, we, we. The subject matter for the album just presented itself.
"There's a song called Whole Lot Of Leaving, an obvious phone call home to my wife saying: 'Hey baby, be strong, because there's a whole lot of leaving going on.'
"I'm there as the third person sitting on that bed while Richie's telling Heather or Dave's telling April that they're strangers and I'm there telling them there's light at the end of the tunnel.
"There's another song called Seat Next To You. For Richie, it was about missing his father. For me, it was about missing my girl when I'm away."

A rock star has saved 12th & Porter.

Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora has played at 12th & Porter and loved the Nashville club .

He told his buddy, Michael Jackson producer Frank Deleio, that 12th & Porter was in trouble and now, the club has a new investor.

12 & Porter’s owners said the club is now more secure than ever because of Deleio.

In other entertainment news, the Nashville School of Arts held its graduation Wednesday night. Rather than a typical graduation, the school's graduation actually was, well, a show.

The students danced, played, sang and even acted.

The Nashville School of the Arts show is so popular that it drew 3,500 people are there were only 143 graduates.

Also, workers are getting ready for Thursday’s riverfront return of Dancing in the District.

It has a different name, the Downtown River Jam, but for the next two Thursdays Riverfront Park will be rocking as part of Nashville’s year-long celebration of the city's 200th birthday.

Thursday night’s line-up includes Jimmy Hall and Jack Pearson, Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes and famous songwriter JD Souther, who wrote several hits for the Eagles.

The show is free andopen to the public.

Bon Jovi CD Inspired by Nashville

May 7, 2007 — Next month, Bon Jovi unveils Lost Highway, the album the New Jersey rock band wrote and partially recorded in Nashville. Jon Bon Jovi has been coming to Nashville since 1991 and he tells The Tennessean that he thrives in the creative community of songwriters and musicians here.

"Everybody seemingly in this town is involved in the music business," he says. "I love that. I am not the freak like I am at home when you are the only guy who does what you do."

After the success of "Who Says You Can't Go Home," the No. 1 country duet with Jennifer Nettles, Jon thought the band should try more country collaborations. He and bandmate Richie Sambora stayed at the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville and immersed themselves in songwriting.

"We recorded and wrote and hung out in the bar," he says. "I need room service and I need a gym. When you walk into a hotel that leaves a legal notebook sitting on your desk and has writable CDs in the gift shop, you know you are in the right place."

Dann Huff and John Shanks produced album, due for release on June 19. "It's not a country album, but "a Bon Jovi record influenced by Nashville." Jon says, "It's not our trying to fool anybody into thinking we've gone country."

Half of Bon Jovi turned into action figures

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Jon Bon Jovi's female fans will soon be able to take the cuddly rocker to bed with them.

The frontman for New Jersey band Bon Jovi and guitarist Richie Sambora are the latest musicians to join McFarlane Toys' line of action figures, which will hit stores in August and sell for $10-$12.

The Tempe, Ariz.-based firm worked closely with the Bon Jovi principals to select the proper pose, accessories and facial expressions. However, Bon Jovi second bananas drummer Tico Torres and keyboardist David Bryan did not get downsized.

In the past, McFarlane Toys has issued action figures of such groups as Kiss, Metallica and Motley Crue -- with all the members of those bands' lineups getting dolled up.

The legacy that Bon Jovi has created over the last three decades is an undeniable force in American rock music. While many bands from the 80s have been relegated to the history books, Bon Jovi's evolution has bridged the gap of generations and made them one of the truly indelible names in rock 'n' roll.

BON JOVI TO BE MADE INTO DOLLS

JON BON JOVI and his bandmate RICHIE SAMBORA will join the likes of KISS and OZZY OSBOURNE when action figure dolls are made in their likeness. The KEEP THE FAITH musicians have teamed up with MCFarlane Toys to create the dolls, which have been designed with clothing choices and facial expressions specific to the stars in mind. Fans of BON JOVI drummer TICO TORRES and keyboardist DAVID BRYAN however, will be disappointed to learn that they were left out of the plans.

Untapped possibilities

5. Bridge the generation gap

A year ago, Councilman Tim Leavitt let it slip toward the end of a city council meeting that he had attended the previous night's Bon Jovi concert in Portland.
Bon who? asked a perplexed Pollard.
The New Jersey band has been a staple of the nation's music scene for more than two decades. Jon Bon Jovi, the group's lead singer, campaigned for John Kerry in 2004 and made a cameo appearance on "The West Wing." Richie Sambora, its guitarist, was married to actress Heather Locklear for 11 years.
But the Bon Jovi name was gibberish to Vancouver's top leader, a retired Army lieutenant colonel who listens to martial music in his city hall office.

Billboard single reviews

ARTIST: BON JOVI
SINGLE: MAKE A MEMORY
NEW YORK (Billboard) - Still pumped from last year's sold-out "Have a Nice Day" tour, Bon Jovi readies a new studio album, "Lost Highway," due in June. Lead single "(You Want To) Make a Memory" is a surprisingly sparse and intimate ballad about two long-ago lovers getting in touch again. Over a pulsing crescendo of acoustic guitars, piano and strings, Bon Jovi delivers his most soulful vocal in years, sounding relaxed and nostalgic as he offers '80s-soaked lines like "I dug up this old photograph/Look at all the hair we had." It's a classic Bon Jovi anthem -- simple, well-crafted and enormously melodic -- with guitarist Richie Sambora singing open-hearted harmonies.

"Bon Jovi is probably the biggest guilty pleasure in the world, everybody's a fan kind of in a way. They're enigmas, they're legends," says Sampson."I was actually quite nervous writing with them because it was just a bit surreal but they turned out to be...incredibly great guys."

Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi are in town finishing up an album and went to Fuel to hang out with Nashville singer Billy Falcon, his daughter Rose Falcon and Nashville duo the Mulch Brothers. Sambora tried to talk Bon Jovi onto the stage, but to no avail. Several folks have hinted Bon Jovi might return to Fuel next Monday.

Bon Jovi rocks MuzikMafia

Tuesday night's MuzikMafia show was slated as the big musical coming out for the Johns.

John Rich of Big & Rich is trying to orchestrate a big (& rich) comeback for veteran John Anderson (Seminole Wind), and Tuesday's show at Mercy Lounge provided the first public stage for the new dynamic duo.

But there was also plenty of buzz about the arrival of two unannounced guests, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora.

The two have been in and out of town working on a new album with high-powered Music Row producer Dann Huff (Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood).

Bon Jovi now has plenty of Nashville buddies, including Big Kenny of Big & Rich.

Seems Richie wasn't feeling very well, but that didn't stop him from hitting stage and jamming with his Music City pals.

Keith Urban and Bon Jovi Surprise Crowd at Charity Show

Keith Urban and Bon Jovi's Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora made surprise appearances Tuesday night (Sept. 19) at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium during songwriter Craig Wiseman's annual concert benefiting the Second Harvest Food Bank. Wiseman's numerous song credits include Tim McGraw's "Live Like You Were Dying" and "The Cowboy in Me" and Kenny Chesney's "The Good Stuff" and "Young." Also performing Tuesday were Alabama lead vocalist Randy Owen, Brooks & Dunn's Ronnie Dunn, LeAnn Rimes, songwriters Tony Mullins and Jeffrey Steele and guitarist Dann Huff. Owen sang several Alabama hits, "Tennessee River" and "Lady Down on Love," and LeAnn Rimes' performance featured "Something's Gotta Give," written by Wiseman and Mullins." Accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, Keith Urban delivered "Making Memories of Us" and his current single, "Once in a Lifetime," while Bon Jovi and Sambora performed "Living on a Prayer," "Who Says You Can't Go Home" and "Wanted Dead or Alive." Ronnie Dunn was backed by a church choir when he closed the evening with "Believe," the Brooks & Dunn hit he and Wiseman co-wrote.

Bon Jovi To Hold Music City Fundraiser

WKRN.jpg

Bon Jovi will be in Nashville Tuesday night. Bon Jovi has been coming to Music City since the early 1990s because he loves the songwriting community. He, along with Richie Sambora, will join LeAnn Rimes, Ronnie Dunn from Brooks & Dunn, Randy Owen from Alabama and more at the Ryman Auditorium for a fundraiser. Tickets cost $40 and all proceeds go to the Second Harvest Food Bank. The show's organizer, songwriter extraordinaire Craig Wiseman, said there's a good chance that Mr. Nicole Kidman will play as well. Persistent country singer Rodney Atkins has scored his first number one song, about ten years after he got his record deal. “If You’re Going Through Hell” topped the chart at number one and on Monday night, Atkins held a number one party. His 4-year-old son Elijah also attended the party. In other news, Hank Williams Jr. faced assault charges in a Memphis court Monday. Williams is accused of hitting on and eventually choking a 19-year-old waitress. On Monday, the waitress, Holly Hornbeak, said Hank should be punished.

Bon Jovi plays it up in arena setting and scores big

Bon Jovi plays it up in arena setting and scores big

FOXBOROUGH -- Bon Jovi is all about big, bold strokes and big, easy-to-remember catch phrases: Livin' On a Prayer . Keep the Faith . Blaze of Glory . Wanted Dead or Alive . Like the New Jersey pop-metal band's sturdy, arena-ready hooks, you've heard all the lines before. But somehow, the meat-and-potato anthems -- because they bring back the promise, recklessness, and melodrama of youth -- still signify good times and a rock 'n' roll fantasy or two.

On staying power and power ballads

Jon Bon Jovi talks of staying power and power ballads

Q. Richie Sambora has been through the media mill lately.
A. Richie, in the media?

Q. C'mon.
A. He's been through hell. Between the divorce [from Heather Locklear] and getting together with his new girlfriend [Denise Richards] and breaking his shoulder and [his father's illness], it's been an awful year. For my dear friend's sake, I hope that's all behind him.

Bon Jovi: a concert by the numbers

Were it possible to include such things in museums, Jon Bon Jovi's smile belongs somewhere between Jimi Hendrix's scarves and Roy Orbison's sunglasses. BJ PROUD HIS LYRIC EMPOWERED GENERATION

JON BON JOVI is pleased he refused to let his BON JOVI bandmate RICHIE SAMBORA persuade him to remove a FRANK SINATRA reference from hit song IT'S MY LIFE, because it's the lyric he's most proud of. Singer Bon Jovi claims his choice words have "empowered a generation". He tells the New York Post, "In It's My Life, I sing, 'like Frankie said, I did it my way'. "When Richie heard that, he said to me, 'Nobody gives a s**t about you looking up to Sinatra. There's no way we're putting that line in the song.' I said, 'Screw you - I have to sing the song every night, and I believe in the lyric.' "I was right, because that lyric has touched so many people. People too young to even know who Frankie was. Frankie could be their buddy, their brother, their teacher. "What that lyric did was empower a generation to think, 'I'm taking control of my life.'"

Out and about

Out and about

Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora hit Chickie's & Pete's (15th & Packer) Saturday night after Bon Jovi rocked Citizens Bank Park. They signed autographs between bites of crabs, crab fries, and lobster pizza.

Former Phillies slugger John Kruk and Iggle Jason Short also dropped by the after-party.

Bon Jovi, a co-owner of the Philadelphia Soul, has a history with Chickie's & Pete's and owner Pete Ciarrocchi. The Packer Avenue location appeared in the band's "Who Says You Can't Go Home" video and Jon gave a shout-out to the joint on an episode of "Oprah."
