Junior women's club raises funds for local charities Group's gala collects $35,000

The Westlake Village Junior Women's Club recently held its first Casino Night and Silent Auction Fundraiser at the Saticoy Country Club in Somis.

Brooke MacLean, event cochair, said the event raised over $35,000. All proceeds will be disbursed to local Conejo Valley charities at the end of the year.

Items on display for a silent auction and raffle included a guitar signed by Richie Sambora and tickets to "American Idol."

The evening's main festivity was the poker tournament. Destry Setser won the tourney grand prize, a Sony 55-inch plasma television valued at $13,000 and donated by Bliss Home Theaters and Automation

"The generosity of all the local merchants and businesses is what makes this event a success," said Leslie Adams, event co-chair.

The Westlake Village Junior Women's Club unites women in friendship throughout the Conejo Valley and promotes education, civic involvement and philanthropy. The club hosts various fundraisers to support nonprofit organizations such as Many Mansions, Wellness Community, Lighthouse Charities, Meals on Wheels and Hospice of Conejo.
