Bon Jovi to release 'Beautiful' book this year

We're of the opinion that Jon Bon Jovi just gets better looking, but apparently, the band differs. You can judge for yourself with the publication of the first-ever "official" book from the band, "Bon Jovi: When We Were Beautiful," which will be released in October from HarperCollins.
The book, which celebrates the band's 25th anniversary, includes previously-unreleased photographs and written material from Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, David Bryan and Tico Torres, including reflections on the band's ups and downs, backstage views, and glimpses into their home lives. It comes out at the same time as a documentary by filmmaker Phil Griffin, shot during the "Lost Highway" tour last year.

A-list blues, rock musicians take to the 'Streets'

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - The album "Dark Streets -- Original Motion Picture Soundtrack," boasts a lineup of top soul, blues and rock names -- including B.B. King, Etta James, Richie Sambora and Chaka Khan -- that many would associate with a big-budget film. But this particular soundtrack is the musical companion to an indie .

Released digitally Nov. 25, the Atlantic Records set follows the label's No. 1 "Twilight" soundtrack.

The movie, a neo-noir musical, opens Dec. 12 in select cities via Samuel Goldwyn Films.

Tribute to a Legend

Les Paul & Friends-A Tribute To A Legend is a fitting honor to the genre-crossing icon with an eclectic collection of musicians spanning the musical spectrum. From the hard hitting thunder of Joe Bonammassa party rock guitar, to the fluid almost ethereal guitar groove provided by guitar icon Slash, this CD covers the gamut of guitar and recording techniques. Solid tributes, most of which also include the 93-year old Les Paul are turned in by Johnny Rzeznik covering U2’s “All I Ever Want Is You”, Joan Osborne’s smoky rendition of “I Don’t Wanna Be With Anybody But You”, and even Richie Sambora’s spiritual vocal on “Great Hall Of Fame.” This CD serves as a tribute, not only to the man, but also to these techniques that Les Paul invented as well as to the Les Paul guitar and the inspiration he provided the many guests that appear on this release. Notably Les Paul himself plays alongside his protg’s on several tracks. Sadly, it was during the post production of this CD that famed barefoot guitarist Hiram Bullock passed away making this his last official recording. Not only is this a tribute to the man, Les Paul; it’s also a tribute to his recording techniques and the inspiration he provided the many guests that appear on this release.

Commenting on the making of this disc, featured artist Slash says “This is a record where instead of playing Les Paul's music & trying to imitate his inimitable style, it is a showcase of guitar players doing their own thing, but in tribute to his influence on our musicianship, recording techniques & use of effects. All of which wouldn't be anything like what they are if it weren't for Les Paul's creative & technical pioneering genius. And, at 93 yrs old he is still as obsessed with pioneering as many new gadgets & techniques to make life more interesting, as he always has been.”

Track Listing
1. THE GOOD LUCK YOU'RE HAVING featuring JOE BONAMASSA and LES PAUL
2. THE WALLS CAME TUMBLING DOWN featuring HIRAM BULLOCK and LES PAUL
3. I DON'T WANNA BE WITH NOBODY BUT YOU featuring JOAN OSBORNE and LES PAUL
4. ALL I WANT IS YOU featuring JOHNNY RZEZNIK, PETER FRAMPTON and LES PAUL
5. SLIPPING INTO DARKNESS featuring LISA FISCHER and LES PAUL
6. 69 FREEDOM SPECIAL featuring LES PAUL and FRIENDS
7. VOCALISE featuring SLASH
8. I LOVE YOU MORE THAN YOU'LL EVER KNOW featuring MICK HUCKNALL, JOE PERRY and LES PAUL
9. HOW LONG featuring JEFF GOLUB

LL Cool J Calls New Album A "Summer Blockbuster"

LL Cool J says his new album, Exit 13, is his most focused and best record in years. Due out August 5, Exit 13 "is a record that I actually, honestly believe from the deepest part of my soul, I would buy — every record you make is not like that." LL told Rolling Stone that his last few albums have not been up to snuff, due to his acting career taking up much of his time. "With all my television and film projects, the quality level of my recent albums has suffered," but with the writer's strike, he was able to focus once again in the recording studio.

"This new album isn’t gonna be what people are used to hearing from me the last couple of records," he told Rolling Stone. "This thing is gonna be a whole other level of dedication, commitment, creativity — this isn’t the little independent movie, this is the big summer blockbuster.

"Exit 13 features cameos from Wyclef Jean, Lil Kim, KRS-One, Jim Jones, Method Man and The Dream, as well as a remix of the single "Baby" featuring Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora. "It’s really a departure," LL says. "Rick Rubin would be proud of me."

The record was titled Exit 13 as it is LL's 13th record with Def Jam, and possibly his last. The veteran rapper was vocal in his displeasure with Jay-Z's term as President of the label. But now that the Jiggaman has stepped down, LL says he and Def Jam are "back on the same page, it feels great. It’s my last record on the contract, but that doesn’t mean that our relationship is over."

Brian Wilson Tribute DVD

Eagle Rock Entertainment will release 'Various Artists DVD-MusicCares Presents a Tribute To Brian Wilson' on 8/22/06!

Picture the Red Hot Chili Peppers doing "I Get Around." Or Jeff Beck doing "Surfin' USA." This one-time-only eclectic concert, in tribute to the 2005 "Person Of The Year," Brian Wilson, has a wonderfully oddball lineup of musicians covering the former Beach Boy's music. Wilson himself chips in with five of his own compositions to close the show. Performers include Earth, Wind & Fire, Darlene Love, Richie Sambora, Barenaked Ladies (who perform their own "Brian Wilson"), John Legend, Jamie Cullum with Fred Martin & The Levite Camp, Backstreet Boys, Shelby Lynne, and a duet with Michael McDonald & the late Billy Preston.
