Gore announces Live Earth

Entertainment News - 16/02/07 - Neil Davey

It's not inconvenient, but it's the truth: Al Gore has announced a series of concerts to highlight climate change.

The July 7 gigs - to be called Live Earth - will be held in London, Shanghai, Johannesburg, Sydney and at locations to be confirmed in Japan, Brazil and the US.

Plus, should you feel like blowing your carbon footprint and rocking with the penguins, Antarctica.

Organisers estimate that a total of two BILLION people worldwide will view the shows, which will feature acts such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg, Bon Jovi (with or without Richie Sambora!), Duran Duran. Foo Fighters, Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow and the Black Eyed Peas.

'We have to get the message of urgency and hope out,' Gore announced at a press conference in Los Angeles, with the assistance of Cameron Diaz, Pharrell Williams and producer Kevin Wall.

So to do so they're hosting 'the biggest party on earth'? Each to his own, we suppose.

Gore announced that proceeds will be used to create a foundation to combat climate change.

'In order to solve the climate crisis, we have to reach billions of people,' he explained.

'The climate crisis will only be stopped by an unprecedented and sustained global movement.'

And, apparently, rock and roll.
