american music awards

on air: The oft-forgotten little brother of the Grammys and VMAs, the American Music Awards certainly did not disappoint Sunday night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, attracting all of music's favorite acts—from pop stars to country crooners and rhythm-and-blues boys to hip-hop artists—for a night of all-star celebration and partying.
the radio stars: Performers Lenny Kravitz, Outkast (one of the night's big winners), Alicia Keys, Toby Keith, Maroon 5 and Bon Jovi, among others, serenaded Pamela Anderson, Ashanti, Nelly, Kelly Osbourne, John Stamos and many, many more.
america's idol: Usher's Confessions album sold more than one million copies in its début week, and because the nominees for this ceremony are based on record sales with 20,000 radio listeners then choosing the winner, is it any surprise that this singing-and-dancing phenom walked, er, strutted away with four trophies? And what better way to celebrate than at music mogul Clive Davis's soirée at the Esquire House in Beverly Hills, an always coveted invite, where the A-list crowd bonded over bubbly, food and live entertainment. —Wendy Manwarren
