Stars Rock the Marine Corps
Heather Locklear introduced her husband Richie Sambora by saying that her father was a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, and she spent many summers there.
Camp Pendleton, CA, April 1 – Everyone loves to entertain U.S. troops, but travel to far-flung trouble spots can be arduous. The producers of “Rockin’ the Corps” decided to hold their show at Camp Pendleton in California, within shouting distance of Hollywood, and ended up with a star-studded spectacle. We hear that in a survey of Marines, Destiny’s Child was voted the most-wanted performer. On Friday, 40,000 Marines and their families piled in to hear the ladies plus Hootie & the Blowfish, Godsmack, rapper Ja Rule and even makeup rockers Kiss while ocean breezes kept things cool.
Some other folks you may have heard of – Carmen Electra, Marisa Tomei, Mary J. Blige, Cindy Crawford and Michelle Rodriguez – also appeared. (A military etiquette note: Don’t refer to Marines as soldiers! The crowd booed every time someone, like Sharon Stone, used the term “soldiers”. Apparently that’s for people in the army or something.) Heather Locklear introduced her husband Richie Sambora by saying that her father was a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, and she spent many summers there.
You’ll be able to join in the fun and show your support; the concert will be available on pay-per-view cable and on DVD, with proceeds going to a fund to support troops and their families.
