Larson has been a Jersey Shore musician for 30 years. Shore luminaries appear on Lance Larson's latest recording

"Song for the Soldier," Lance Larson's elegy for the troops, is being offered as a free download on the musician's Web site.

The track, from the upcoming album of the same name, honors the sacrifices made by soldiers and the people who love them:

"Here's a song of misfortune, of a soldier's life

How his honor and wisdom caused his widow's cries . . ."

The album, due for release in August, is dedicated to Larson's father, the late Herbert L. Larson, who was a veteran of World War II.

E Street Band bassist Garry Tallent also contributes, as do members of the Asbury Jukes, Days Awake and the Mount Pisgah Baptist Choir.

Others on the album include Buddy Cage of New Riders of the Purple Sage, on pedal steel guitar; Jack Scarangella of Blood, Sweat and Tears, on drums; Jimmy Leahy, who plays with John Waite, on guitar; and Ryan Cavanaugh, who plays with Bill Evans, on banjo.

The album was mixed and mastered by Guy Daniel at City Lights in Farmingdale.
