When the show ends tonight, small-town kid Jaydee Bixby could be the third Canadian Idol champ from Alberta, following in the footsteps of Medicine Hat's Kalan Porter and Calgary's Melissa O'Neil.

The Drumheller-bred 17-year-old squared off against Brian Melo, 25, from Hamilton, last night on the final performance episode of Idol.

Bixby stayed true to his country roots and for his first song he belted out Bon Jovi's Who Says You Can't Go Home.

But the judges weren't digging Bixby's performance of the Bon Jovi tunes or the Idol single, All I Ever Wanted.

"Everyone relates different to pressure, and right now you're cracking like a bad egg," Idol judge Jake Gold told Bixby after the second song.

Sass Jordan offered Bixby a little encouragement, telling the teen that he sung the song very well considering it wasn't his type of music.

"It's tough to sing a song that isn't your thing, and I think you sung that very well," said Jordan.

Bixby's mom, Shelley Bixby, said she's proud of her son for staying true to the music he loves.

Bixby chose to sing mainly traditional rock 'n' roll and country tunes from the '50s and '60s.

The advice paid off: More than a million Canadian voters helped move Bixby into the top two last week and tonight Canada's next Idol will be decided.

"I haven't strayed from the kind of music I've always sang, I've stuck to my guns," Jaydee told the Sun in an interview last week.

For his last song, Bixby chose Tom Jones' It's Not Unusual.

Tune into CTV tonight at 9 p.m. to find out if Bixby will take the Canadian Idol crown. Performances by Bon Jovi, Eva Avila and Avril Lavigne are also scheduled.
