Richie confesses to reaching rock bottom

Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora has revealed he checked into rehab after he had 'hit bottom' last year.

The musician entered Utah's Cirque Lodge centre at the same time as starlet Lindsay Lohan to help battle his addiction to booze.

He revealed he needed help after a string of problems in his life including his divorce from Heather Locklear all became too much.

Sambora told People magazine: "I got divorced from Heather Locklear, I was going through a custody battle, I was having alcohol addiction problems, my dad was dying. It was a gang tackle from hell, basically. And crawling out of that wreckage was a very triumphant victory."

Sambora checked into Cirque Lodge last September and was treated for alcohol addiction.

But he also credits the 'unwavering support' of his family and friends for helping him through the tough time.

And he added he would never have made it through rehab without the help of his mother, adding: " Oh man, my mom, especially."

Sambora, an only child, is particularly close to his mother, Joan, as he was with his father, Adam, who suffered from lung cancer before dying of the disease last year.

On dealing with lung cancer, he told People: "You feel like you are drowning in a sea of disaster."

Sambora spoke out at a special benefit concert which he dedicated to his father Adam.

Bon Jovi kicked off a yearlong concert series for the non-profit Stand Up For A Cure to benefit Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre in Manhattan, where Adam Sambora was treated.

Helping to raise awareness of lung cancer is one of the best things in Sambora's life since getting sober, as is taking care of his mom and spending time with ten-year-old daughter, Ava.

He told People: "I love being a dad. I'd have more kids if I could. I'd take a couple more, one or two more before I croak."

Single since splitting from former girlfriend Denise Richards in 2007, Sambora refused to reveal if he was looking for someone special.

He laughingly added: "There's a couple but I don't want to say anything right now."
