Bon Jovi to perform on Canadian Idol finale, coach Top 2

Eye on Idol

As if there wasn't enough already, there is now even more incentive for Canadian Idol's competitors to make the final two-- the chance to travel to New York to learn from Bon Jovi's Richie Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi himself.

Known internationally as one of the greatest rock bands of all time, Bon Jovi has also confirmed their attendance in the line-up for Idol's Sept. 11 finale, which also features pop-punker Avril Lavigne and last year's Canadian Idol, Eva Avila. It will the band's first-ever appearance on Canadian television.

"There are few acts today that embody success and longevity in the music business like Bon Jovi," said Susanne Boyce, CTV President of Programming, when making the announcement.

"Sharing their immeasurable experience with the Top 2 is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the finalists, and gracing our stage for the finale will be an incredible thrill for our viewers."

Since the smash success of the 1988 album "Slippery When Wet" (which featured hits "You Give Love a Bad Name," "Livin' on a Prayer" and "Wanted Dead or Alive"), Bon Jovi has been known for producing hit after hit throughout the 1980s, 1990s and into the 2000s.

The band has recorded 10 studio albums, sold 120 million albums and played 2,500 concerts in over 50 countries.

Following the success of their record-breaking world tour and multi-platinum album "Have A Nice Day" in 2005, Bon Jovi's latest album "Lost Highway" debuted at number one on the Canadian Nielsen Soundscan chart in June. It is now double platinum in Canada and remains in the chart's third spot in its eighth week.

Canadian Idol's Top 2 will have the chance to get just a little bit more familiar with Bon Jovi's material, as each will perform a selection from the band's anthology in the final performance show, which airs on Monday, Sept. 10.

It will be part of a three-song repertoire that will also include the newest Canadian Idol single and a song that best represents each competitor as an artist.
